In 1996, artist and painter Todd Newman held a show at the Boise Art Museum. The show included 30 paintings (airbrush on Masonite, 4'x4') in 3 galleries. His brother pj newman created a soundtrack for the opening, simultaneously composing and recording 25 tracks (the show originally had 24 paintings) using a borrowed synthesizer, a handful of sound effects cd's and friend Ryan Hoffman on banjo. pj used a photo of the painting, the title or the 1 or 2 sentence description of each piece as a map while working. The original run of 30 cassettes disappeared during the show and the soundtrack faded from sight and sound. This represents the first widespread release of the soundtrack more than 25 years later. The music tries to match the dizzying depth defying vivid images from Todd Newman's staggering imagination.
